One of the most important services we offer is developing your Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). This legal document is imperative to your franchisees, as it’ll contain all the information they’ll need to acquire before investing with your brand. When you’re ready to expand your business, you’ll need to write, update, and distribute your FDD – and our experts are ready to help you compile the data to show prospects why yours is a great brand to invest in.
Allow us to offer our expertise in franchising consulting to help you generate leads, improve the services you provide your franchisees, and expand even further into international markets. We’ll support you through every step of the process and keep your brand growing and strong.
Registering Your FDD
When it comes time for franchise filing and registration, you can count on us to ensure the process goes smoothly. Once your FDD is created, it must be registered with a local state regulator before your concept can be offered or sold within the state as a franchise. After the document is reviewed and approved, you will be granted registration entitling you to open franchise locations in that state.
There are three different franchising requirement categories grouped by states: non-registration states, filing states, and franchise registration states. In non-registration states, you’ll just need to follow FTC guidelines and supply your FDD to sell franchises in the state. In filing states, you’ll need to file your FDD and pay a fee, with no additional approval required. And in states that require franchise registration, you’ll be required to file, pay a fee, and gain approval from the state.
States can change their franchise registration type at any time, so it’s crucial to refer to each state you’re considering registering in to see their latest rules and regulations.
Non-registration states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Filing states: Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Maine, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah.
Registration states: California, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, New York, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
For Wisconsin franchise registration, you’ll need to pay a $400 fee and register your FDD with the Department of Financial Institutions Division of Securities. With California franchise registration, you’ll need to register your FDD with the Franchise Division Department of Corporations and pay a $675 fee. And if you’re looking for Minnesota franchise registration, you’ll pay a fee of $400 at the Minnesota Department of Commerce.
Where Will Your Brand Go?
As experts in local markets, our professional consultants at Accurate Franchising, Inc. can help you find the right locations for your franchise concept. After all, to succeed as a franchise, it’s essential the markets you choose offer your brand the potential to thrive and the ability to adapt to different owners and unique customers.
We’ve found that the top cities to open a franchise location have some common denominators, including:
- Large populations. More people means a larger customer base. You’ll be able to gain more brand impressions in a highly populated, highly trafficked area.
- Steady growth. Cities with steady populations and economic growth are smart choices as they increase the potential for your brand to grow.
- Diversity. A diverse population and economy provide a greater chance of success, as your franchisee will be able to cater to more customers. Plus, you don’t want to set up your franchisee for failure in a business market dominated by one industry.
- Balanced competition. Piggybacking off diversity, you also want to avoid investing in a franchise location in a city saturated with businesses similar to yours. Conversely and equally as important is understanding it’s best to pass on a location where other companies offering similar services to yours don’t populate the area, as there’s likely little demand.
All of these factors are especially important when you are considering multiple locations for a multi-unit investment. You want to allow your franchisees to expand their business, take advantage of franchise fee discounts, maximize the results of their marketing spend, fully leverage the time they’ve spent mastering your business model, and increase their potential for profit.
As true in virtually every industry, it all comes down to location, location, location. Accurate Franchising, Inc. is ready to help you find the right place for your brand’s franchise opportunities so you can achieve your growth goals.
